This Instrument Workstations set is packed to help your students learn about listening for musical sounds (ex. low/high) and the four musical families (strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion). This basic workstation set for instruments includes: includes a PowerPoint presentation (and Google Slides version) for sound waves, the four basic orchestra families (string, woodwind, brass & percussion), exit tickets & worksheets (as listed below) AND instrument play dough mats! It's a great bargain on its own!
Additional items (such as Instrument Go Fish, Headband Game, Coloring Pages and Puzzles) can be purchased separately OR you can obtain all of these (at a significant savings) with the Musical Instrument Workstations Mega Bundle. There is also a Musical Instrument Workstations Mini Bundle that includes this resource along with the Go Fish Game (works as Headband Game too), as well as the instrument families version of puzzles and coloring pages). FYI the page count total DOES NOT include ore reflect the pages for the PowerPoint and Google Slides that are included as well (at no extra cost).:)
Included in this “basic” workstation set:
♫ High/Low Soundwaves – contains info and video links to help students recognize and identify the sounds of the instruments and their families
♫ 4 stations representing the String, Woodwind, Brass and Percussion families - each include: Workstation sign with directions “All about the...” (features info on family members such as what makes them unique), “For good measure” features length info (English & metric) with comparisons (except for percussion family), YouTube video links for listening and viewing (links are editable in PowerPoint and Google Slides versions)
♫ “A Build an Instrument” workstation includes: Workstation sign with directions, 4 different and VERY easy to make instruments (one to represent each family), Rhythm chart for students to “play” using the instruments they created
♫ Worksheets/Exit Tickets: 31 pages of worksheets and exit tickets (answer keys too). This includes 2 versions of “Instrument/Family Match,” 1 “Name That Instrument,” 4 worksheets designed specifically to go with each family workstation, 2 sets of exit tickets (8 total) that can be used for each of the four family workstations, a puzzle log and a “For Good Measure” set of worksheet/logs for the string, woodwind and brass families.

Extra Materials You May Find Yourself Needing:
✔ headbands, crayons, markers and/or colored pencils (or have your students bring their own), play dough (I actually made mine…)
✔ For Build an Instrument Workstation: empty tissue boxes, rubber bands of different thicknesses, scissors, plastic straws, empty paper towel rolls, Styrofoam cups, plastic “Solo” cups, a carpenter nail or something pointy to poke hole in bottom of cup, yarn strips cut into 18” pieces, paper clips, paper towels and a small bit of water to wet paper towels
❤ I have also used fun games such as Don’t Spill the Beans and Don’t Break the Ice (instrument versions). I have created a special set of cards that allow you to use these parlor games in multiple ways for music. You can see them here.
