What I love about the haiku is that students of all levels can create one that they feel proud of! The first week or so is a great time to have your students write a haiku about their summer vacation, or one aspect of it. It's more fun than the old "what I did this summer" essay. And the finished products will look nicely on your bulletin board.
This is a 16 page packet, and it includes everything you'll need to have your students write a haiku. I've included two rubrics (one is simpler than the other) if you choose to grade it. You'll have a few transparencies to use when introducing the haiku. The packet also has a haiku practice printable. You'll be able to choose from one of a few cute final copy pages for your students to show off their work.
I hope you'll find as much success with this as I did!
