In this hands-on activity, students will unknowingly engage in basic stages of the experimental and engineering design processes in order to solve the mystery of the NOS tube: a discrepant event great for teaching the nature of science. They will also learn the "scientific method," or at least one framework/method for completing science. This is an exciting way to kick off the year, and if you keep the mystery a secret, kids will talk about it until graduation!
