Description
This activity has students carefully choosing and hiring 5 players for their basketball team using a tight budget, then tabulating stats for their team across 3 games. For each game, they compete against another student who has also created a team. Students keep track of their team points, rebounds, steals, and blocks, using each category in different ways to determine if their team is victorious against another student's team.
None of the players are real, and the stats are entirely made up. I've included a unique set of stats for 3 total games, but you can edit any of the documents and expand the activity further if you'd like.
The post-activity questions primarily apply to students who understand how to calculate averages (5th grade and higher). I do recommend creating your own question sheet for students who don't yet understand how to find averages.
You can edit any of the files by opening the .docx files in Google Docs and changing the page margins to 0.5".
