This project is a great way to involve parents and let students discuss their culture and family. While teaching a unit of Native American with books like, The Legend of the Indian Paintbrush, The Rough Faced Girl, Legend of the Blue Bonnet, discuss how each of the characters received their name based on events, physical features and character traits. Discuss with students the importance of one's name. Have students research their name with parent help. Have student complete the project and present where they name originated from.
