Description

Looking for a way to hold your kids accountable and start the year off on the right foot? Look no further!

These booklets can be used at the beginning of a new year or a new school year. Students set a personal goal and an academic goal for each month. At the end of the month, they reflect on how they did and then set another two goals for the next month!

This product contains three different booklets to differentiate for your students.

  • The first one comes with lines for kids to set their goals
  • The second one contains sentence starters that are scaffolded to help direct their thinking.
  • The third one comes with space to draw a picture. Great for beginning language learners!

To begin, start a discussion about what a goal is, and you can liken it to an athlete who practices and sets goals or when someone goals on a diet and what they need to do to lose weight. You can discuss the difference between a personal goal and an academic one. Brainstorm possible goals as a class in the form of an anchor chart, something the class can strive for during a given month. It’s important to set not only goals but how a goal is attained (actions).

Next, distribute one of the two possible graphic organizers. Each organizer can be copied front to back, (academic on one side and personal on the other) and you can provide a choice. From there, you can decide which booklet your students will use for their monthly goals. Once students, have used their graphic organizer and filled out their booklet for the month, collect the booklets and graphic organizers to use again at the end of the month. It would be helpful to set a beginning and end of the month reminder for you to make sure you follow up to maintain consistency.

To help remind the kids daily about their goals, there are calendars/grids to laminate and keep on their desks. You can have them write in the number of days and each day they check off whether they were working toward their goals. These come in two sizes; small and large. The large grid/calendar can be kept in a folder if you wish to do that or the small can be attached to their desks.

At the end of the month, redistribute the booklets and have kids reflect and determine whether they have met their goal by checking off the box and then set a new goal or continue with the goal that was not met.

Also included are awards to honor those who achieved their goals. The awards come in two sizes and include two in black and white to save ink. The awards are editable to add a name, your signature, and the date.

Make this a monthly celebration and encourage hard work!

To recap, this product includes:

  • 3 different booklets (print, fold, staple) for differentiation
  • 2 different graphic organizers for brainstorming potential goals
  • 2 Monthly calendars (small and full-size) to laminate and have students reflect daily on their progress toward their goals
  • 10 editable and colorful awards; just add a name, date, and signature
  • 2 blackline awards editable to add a name, date, and signature
