This resource bundle provides educators with everything they need to facilitate a rich, research-based professional development experience centered on TESOL's first principle: Know Your Learners. Rather than an abstract discussion of newcomer students, participants engage with six detailed fictional student profiles drawn from real patterns in second-language acquisition research. These students represent diverse grade levels (K–10), countries of origin, home languages, and educational backgrounds. Small groups analyze each profile using a structured four-quadrant framework, examining student assets and strengths, instructional needs, information gaps, and respectful ways to gather missing context.
