Description

This project is always a super popular one that my students thoroughly enjoy! After they create and film their newscasts, I bring snacks and we have a viewing party!!

Time Required: 1 Week (But can be shortened if needed)

Subject(s): Economics, Current Events

About this Project:

In this project, students work collaboratively in groups to identify and analyze 3 current economic events (I ask that they look for events that have occurred in the last 3 months). They then must film a newscast in which they report on their chosen events. To increase student engagement and spark creativity, I also ask that they include at least 2 "fluff" pieces or commercial sponsorships in their videos. These are always HIGHLY entertaining and increase student buy-in.

Why it Works:

This project forces students to recognize and apply the economic concepts we have learned in class to real-world events! This project is designed to show students that economics is ALWAYS relevant in today's world.

Alternative Uses:

You could absolutely adapt this project to almost any subject-matter. Simply change the type of events you'd like your students to report on! This would, for example, work GREAT in a civics classroom, STEM classroom, history classroom, etc.

What's Included in this Bundle?

  • Student Instructions for this Project
  • Student Current Event Analysis Template (This could be used at any time you'd like students to analyze current events!)
  • Project Grading Rubric
