Description
This package includes a Nitrogen Cycle PowerPoint, Nitrogen Cycle Notes (both blank and filled in), and a Nitrogen Cycle Quiz. This PowerPoint is designed for freshman and sophomore science students learning about the nitrogen cycle using original illustrations, creative and smooth animations, and simplified diagrams and terminology. Presentation of this mini-unit will take two to three 45 minute class periods to present. The PowerPoint starts with nitrogen quick facts and then moves into the conflict between living things needing nitrogen to survive vs. most of the world's nitrogen is not usable by living things. This naturally leads into the nitrogen cycle, broken up into two parts: from atmosphere to animals (starting with the atmosphere, then moving to nitrogen fixing bacteria in the soil, then to plants, then to animals) and from plants and animals back to the atmosphere (death and waste, decomposition, denitrification). This PowerPoint does NOT go into detail about nitrates and nitrites, ammonium, or leaching. It DOES, however, cover the major concepts of nitrogen fixation and denitrification in a clear and concise way, with plenty of illustrations and smooth animations. If the demands of your curriculum require a deeper knowledge of the topic (which most will not), then this is still a perfect foundation to build from. The Nitrogen Cycle Notes are neatly formatted and go well with the PowerPoint. The quiz serves as a good assessment of most major topics covered in the PowerPoint.
