Included here are 25 math and 25 literacy activities, themed around winter topics. All activities here are paperless and are ready to go in Google Slides!

What's Included?

Literacy Activities (25):

  • Sight Words: Word Search -- select and use the paint bucket tool to find 10 words in the word search (should, through, been, where, any, though, different, answer, does, their)
  • Sight Words: Missing Letters -- move the missing letters to complete each word (says, friend, people, laugh, why). Each word is given 3 times with a different missing letter in each one.
  • Sounds of OW -- move the words to the hot cocoa to show if the ow says "oh" or "ow"
  • Spelling with GE and DGE -- move each word to the igloo to show if it's /j/ sound is spelled with ge or dge. Type to tell the spelling rule for words that end in ge or dge.
  • Spelling with ER, IR, UR -- move each clothing item to the bears to show if the missing letters in the words should be er, ir, or ur.
  • Prefixes: re, un, pre -- given a base word and definition, move a prefix accessory to each snowman so that it makes the correct word
  • Irregular Past Tense Verbs -- type the correct past tense version of the verbs into the crossword puzzle
  • Compound Words -- use the paint bucket tool to color a word from each column that together can form a compound word. Type the meaning of each compound word.
  • Dictionary Skills -- given dictionary entries for "hard" and "hide", find statements that are correct based on the parts of speech, definitions, and usage.
  • Possessive Nouns -- decide if the possessive noun in each sentence is correct or incorrect. Move the letters to answer the riddle.
  • Reflexive Pronouns -- use the paint bucket tool to color the picture based on the reflexive pronoun that completes each sentence.
  • Parts of Speech: Adjectives and Adverbs -- move the hockey puck over the correct word to complete each sentence (either the adjective or adverb form)
  • Producing Simple Sentences -- look at the picture and type 5 sentences using the same syntax as the given example
  • Beginning a Narrative -- read the middle and end of a story. Type the beginning so the reader knows who the characters are and the setting.
  • Writing a Topic Sentence -- given 3 outlines with details and a closing sentence, type a topic sentence for each one.
  • Organizing Opinion Writing -- move the sentences to show if they are an opinion, reason, detail, or closing.
  • Story Structure -- read the story. Move 6 statements to show if they happened in the beginning, middle or end. Type an answer to tell how the story could have changed if a character had made a different choice.
  • Character Responses to Problems -- read the story and move the answers to each question.
  • Illustrations in Stories -- read the story. Move answers to 3 questions.
  • Winter Poem -- read "Winter" by Louisa May Alcott. Move highlighters to find rhyming words in each stanza, and move answers to 3 questions.
  • Main Topic and Key Details -- read the text, move the seal's hat over any statements about the text that are true.
  • Connections in Text -- read the text. Put 4 statements in order from first to last and match 3 causes and their effects
  • Non-Fiction Text Features -- read the text. Answer 4 questions about the main idea and text features.
  • Author's Purpose -- read 3 short texts. Move the purpose (answer, explain, or describe) and the main topic to each text.
  • Reasons to Support a Point -- read 2 short texts. Match the main point and supporting reasons to the texts.

*Note that all passages are written at a middle of 2nd grade level.

Math Activities (25):

  • Place Value Match -- use the line tool to match place value blocks that have the same value (3 digit numbers)
  • Place Value Words and Numbers -- type the missing digits and words so that the numbers in each row have the same value (3 digit numbers)
  • Comparing Numbers -- given a 3 digit number and comparison symbol, move the digits on the other side of the symbol so that the comparison is true.
  • Ordering Numbers -- in each of five rows, put 5 numbers in order from least to greatest
  • Skip Counting by 10 -- use the paint bucket tool to color boxes that show numbers you would say when counting up by 10s from 368.
  • Skip Counting by 5 -- move the letters that represent given numbers in a sequence to answer the riddle
  • Odd or Even -- move the expressions to show if the sums are odd or even. Type answers about patterns between addends and sums.
  • Measurement in Feet -- count to find how many feet each snowball went. Type answer to a question.
  • Measurement in Inches -- estimate the length of each animal, then move them to the ruler to find an actual measurement.
  • Comparing Measurements -- type the lengths of the skis, then type answers to 5 questions about their lengths.
  • Make and Read a Pictograph -- move the snowflakes to match the data. Move snowflakes to answer 4 questions about the data.
  • Bar Graphing -- match the correct data chart to the graph given. Type answers to 3 questions about the graph and move/stretch an object to add another bar.
  • Fact Fluency -- move expressions to the snow globe with the same value
  • Bar Model Match Up -- given 4 word problems, move the bar models that represent them.
  • Number Bonds within 500 -- given a total and one part, move the mitten with the missing part to complete each bond.
  • Subtract within 1000 with Regrouping-- find puffins that have a difference of 261. Move them to the ice
  • Add and Subtract within 1000 with Regrouping -- move each deer to the cabin whose problem it answers
  • Adding 4 Numbers -- solve each problem and move the letters to answer the riddle
  • Using a Number Line within 90 -- move the arrows to represent 3 problems and type the answers
  • Decomposing to Add -- match the expression, decomposition, and final sums to build 5 snowmen (2 digit numbers)
  • Symbol Decoder -- type the values of the symbols in each of 6 addition problems (2 digit addition)
  • Two Step Word Problems -- move the puzzle pieces to show the steps needed to solve each of 3 problems. Type the final answers. (2 digit numbers)
  • Counting Money -- type the value of each set of coins. Move the bag over each item if there is enough money to buy it
  • Telling Time to the Nearest 5 Minutes -- move the digital clock puzzle pieces over the analog clocks with the same time.
  • Identifying Shapes -- use the paint bucket tool to color the picture based on the number of sides each shape has. Categories are triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and none of these.
