Description

Here is a professionally written, well crafted, tried and tested math lesson plan.

This lesson plan is based on the First Grade/ 1st Grade "Go Math" textbook, Chapter 2 - lesson 2.7, which is titled "Subtract All or Zero." Students will learn to subtract 0 from a number and subtract all to find the difference of a zero.

Common core standards covered in this lesson are: standard —1.OA.A.1, 1.OA.C.6, 1.OA.D.8

What's Included:

  • 2 page fully customizable lesson plan
  • 2 Differentiation worksheets for below level and advanced level students
  • 2 Answer Keys
  • 1 YouTube Video link (Animated video not created by Guided Teacher but it is relevant to the lesson and can be a fun addition)
  • 13 Slide PowerPoint Presentation

The warm up video and the Power point presentation are a bonus technology resource to use as supplements for this lesson plan. Just add your teacher name, school name, date, print and go. No planning required.

As an added bonus, I also included a link to worksheets that are similar to the reteach and enrich worksheets accompanied by your Go Math teacher's guide. You would have to click on the link included in your lesson plan file to download the reteach and enrich freebies.

If you are using the Go Math textbook, it's assumed that you own the online teacher resources since this is usually sold as a package to your school. This will enable you and your students to use additional online tech such as iTools and Animated Math Models. In the event that you do not have access or a subscription to the ThinkCentral portal, the link provided to my own comparable resources should suffice.

The lesson plan is a ready to go word document; all you need to do is add your name and the date. However, it is fully customizable and editable, so feel free to make changes.

The Exit Tickets mentioned in this lesson plan are not included in this purchase. You would have to either create your own, or you can click on the link below if you consider purchasing my set of exit tickets. You may also prefer to buy the chapter bundle, which ideally includes all 9 lessons in this chapter, everything listed above and the exit tickets as a bonus. Each file of Exit tickets covers all the lessons in the entire chapter.

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. Use strategies such as counting on; making ten (e.g., 8 + 6 = 8 + 2 + 4 = 10 + 4 = 14); decomposing a number leading to a ten (e.g., 13 - 4 = 13 - 3 - 1 = 10 - 1 = 9); using the relationship between addition and subtraction (e.g., knowing that 8 + 4 = 12, one knows 12 - 8 = 4); and creating equivalent but easier or known sums (e.g., adding 6 + 7 by creating the known equivalent 6 + 6 + 1 = 12 + 1 = 13).
Determine the unknown whole number in an addition or subtraction equation relating three whole numbers. For example, determine the unknown number that makes the equation true in each of the equations 8 + ? = 11, 5 = ▯ - 3, 6 + 6 = ▯.
