Description

In this Patterns (Number) Math Mystery Activity – Case of The Poisonous Pizzas (GRADE 3) – students will be practicing and reviewing number patterns to solve who is poisoning the pizzas in Mathhattan! This fun and engaging math activity will motivate your students during math class.

Easy prep! Just Print & Solve! Or go paperless with the new Google Slides option provided within your download.

A video hook is provided to set the stage to engage! Check out the video hook in the preview section.

A bonus ENDING VIDEO clip is included to celebrate finishing the mystery.

Distance Learning Update: I've added a Word Document in the folder containing a Google Slides link to share this resource with your students via Google Classroom or Drive. Parts of the pages are editable, so your students can complete them without printing the pages. Please note you will need to make a copy of the Google Slides to your drive before you can edit.

An editable suspect list is included in the packet. You can change the character names and alter the mystery outcome. There are also two alternative pre-made lists you can use instead. This is a great option if your students have already done this mystery story before and you need to change the mystery answer.

MATH SKILLS INCLUDED

There are five clues to crack to solve the mystery:

  • Clue 1: Applying Number Pattern Rules
  • Clue 2: Continuing Patterns (find the rule, add or subtract)
  • Clue 3: Finding a number in pattern (Find the rule + or -, then find nth number in a pattern)
  • Clue 4: Input/ Output Tables (add, subtract, multiply)
  • Clue 5: Patterns – Missing Numbers (find the rule to find the missing number, + or –)

Pack also includes a mystery declaration sheet, answer sheets, elimination guide, and awards.
