Number Talk Powerpoint | Subitizing Worksheets | Subitizing Slides | Subitizing Powerpoint | Subitizing Flash Cards |
Number talks are a great way to help build confidence in your students. These
lessons are meant to be 10 - 15 minutes in length and focus on building number sense,
subitizing, fluency, and making tens. Students are encouraged to share different
strategies for finding the answer. It’s important to emphasize that there is not just
one correct answer. There are many ways a problem can be solved. At the end of
each lesson, there is a short worksheet meant to be used for an interactive
notebook or as an exit ticket, that will help students put their strategies to the test.
Students can use a combination of writing, dictation, labeling, and drawing to solve
the answer. If time allows, sharing examples of student work can be a very
powerful learning tool.
There are many benefits to including number talks in your classroom. Some of
those benefits include:
- Students are able to see different strategies for solving math problems
- Students build confidence in their math abilities
- Students learn academic vocabulary through conversation
- Build a strong foundation in number sense, fluency, and reasoning
This resource contains 20 different lessons that focus on:
- Counting & Cardinality
- Subitizing
- Measurement
- Proving mathematical answers
These lessons are quick, engaging, and most importantly, involve minimal prep time. Students can then use the knowledge they learn from the lesson and apply it to an exit ticket or add it to their interactive math notebook.
