Description

These word problem task cards have no numbers. Students will roll a dice to fill in the blanks for each problem. Using dice increases engagement and allows your students to practice the same set of cards multiple times.

There are 12 single step word problems and 12 multi-step word problems for differentiation. All of the problems require students to multiply or divide.

I have students just solve the first time they use the cards. The second time, I have them restate the question and write a complete sentence for each answer. The third time students use the cards, I have them restate, answer, and explain for each card. Each time students use the cards they are solving new problems because they will roll different numbers. There are 3 versions of the recording sheet if you choose to use the cards in this way.

If you don't have dice, you could just write the numbers on the cards yourself. Sometimes I do this if I want students to practice multiplying or dividing by a certain number.

These really help my students focus on the operations needed before we think about what numbers will be rolled to fill in the blanks. Lots of different uses for these!

Find whole-number quotients and remainders with up to four-digit dividends and one-digit divisors, using strategies based on place value, the properties of operations, and/or the relationship between multiplication and division. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.
Solve multistep word problems posed with whole numbers and having whole-number answers using the four operations, including problems in which remainders must be interpreted. Represent these problems using equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity. Assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computation and estimation strategies including rounding.
