"I really enjoyed using these task cards in my classroom! My students were engaged right away, and I loved how the variety of problems challenged learners at different levels. Some of my students even chose to use certain cards as a challenge, which pushed their thinking in a great way."

"My kids love Boom Cards, but it is hard to find good quality sets. I know I can always trust Alyssa Teaches to produce activities that align to VA's standards. Thank you!!"

Description

Numerical and geometric patterns can be deceptively tricky for students! This rigorous set of patterns task cards makes a great activity for math centers, early finishers, review, and morning work. Use this low-prep activity during a patterns unit or save for spring test prep!

Students will practice identifying, describing, extending, and creating both numerical and geometric patterns. They'll answer a variety of multiple choice and open response questions.

What's Included:

  • 20 colorful task cards
  • 20 printer-friendly task cards (same questions)
  • student recording sheet
  • answer key
  • directions for preparation and use

My students this year really got into task cards. This set allowed for them to really review skills they been learning all year, but not necessarily seeing them on unit assessments. It was a great way to review for SOLs.

Generate a number or shape pattern that follows a given rule. Identify apparent features of the pattern that were not explicit in the rule itself. For example, given the rule “Add 3” and the starting number 1, generate terms in the resulting sequence and observe that the terms appear to alternate between odd and even numbers. Explain informally why the numbers will continue to alternate in this way.
