Description

FUN whole class activity!

Being able to make observations and then inferences based on those observations is a very valuable skills to have in the science classroom, other subjects, and in life. This activity is a great way to introduce these skills or to reinforce them. The activity is led by the teacher from a SmartBoard or projector and can be easily completed in one class period.

The file is designed so that the teacher simply clicks through the slides and the students follow along. The last two slides can be printed and handed out to the students to write on.

I have lots of fun with this activity and look forward to it every year with my middle-schoolers. It is very interesting to hear the students' interpretation of the picture of the little footprints. The best part is that the students complete the exercise by writing a short narrative story. I hope you enjoy this lesson as much as I have.

My students LOVE this resource. I always start with this when teaching the differences between observations and inferences. They enjoy how imaginative they can be and it always gets everyone engaged! A must have if you teach the scientific method/forensic science, observation/inference/prediction.

Such a fun way to differentiate between observations and inferences. My kids loved using their imagination to come up with their own stories.
