Description

This Ocean slideshow presentation includes a PowerPoint and Google Slides slideshow presentation aligned to the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs). Present or review information about the ocean floor, ocean water's physical properties and movement, and marine food webs. Then, review the information from the slideshow presentation with an interactive quiz. 

What will students learn from these Ocean PowerPoint and Google Slides?

  • Factors that can affect salinity.
  • Different ocean movements and how they each form including currents, tides, and waves.
  • Where the Gulf Stream current is located on a map.
  • Major features of the ocean floor including the continental shelf, continental slope, continental rise, abyssal plain, and trenches.
  • Examples of floating organisms, swimming organisms, and organisms that live on the ocean floor.

What is included with this resource?

This resource includes 31 slides with information about the ocean floor, ocean water's physical properties and movement, and marine food webs. The slides provide definitions, examples, and opportunities for discussion.

A PDF worksheet for students to complete as they go through the presentation. The worksheet allows students to create their own definitions and write examples.

The last 30 slides of the presentation are an interactive, self-checking quiz. The quiz features 10 questions about the information taught in the slideshow presentation. The slides are coded so that students can self-check their answers. If they select the incorrect answer, they can go back and try again.

The quiz is also provided in PDF format if you would like students to take the quiz with paper and pencil.

The Ocean slideshow is provided in BOTH PowerPoint and Google Slides formats. Both versions are the same.

Can the slideshow presentations be edited?

In both the PowerPoint and Google Slides versions, most text can be edited if you want to add or change information. The images are locked and can NOT be changed.

What standards are covered?

This Ocean PowerPoint and Google Slides is specifically aligned to the Virginia Science SOL 4.7, although it closely aligns with most science standards related to the ocean floor, the physical properties and movement of ocean water, and marine food webs.
