Description

These ocean zone slides are perfect for a fun and engaging ocean class adventure. Start by handing out the fact file worksheet. Every student can have one sheet, 5 sheets or break up your class into groups and each group can cover its own ocean zone! Your class can learn all about the different zones and some of the animals that dwell in them.

The PowerPoint includes a fun animation that accompanies you as you descend through the zones.

Vocabulary for 6-8 year olds includes: Sunlight Zone, Twilight Zone, Midnight Zone The Abyss, The Trenches

Vocabulary for 8-12 year olds includes: Epipelagic Zone, Mesopelagic Zone, Bathypelagic Zone, Abyssopelagic Zone, Hadal Zone

The different animals for each zone are respectively:

-turtles, seals, dolphins

-whales, jellyfish, sharks

-vampire squid, gulper eel, phronima

-comb jellies, firefly squid angler fish

-starfish, giant tube worms, cusk-eels

I'm so glad you found this lesson to be of use to your class. For 8th graders I would definitely suggest adding some type of research component to accompany this lesson.
