Description
This activity packet follows along with the movie "October Sky" (1999) rated PG. This true-story film is about Homer Hickam, a coal miner’s son in 1950s West Virginia who becomes inspired by the Space Race to build rockets. With the help of friends and a supportive teacher, he uses science and perseverance to chase a future beyond the coal mines. This activity packet is science-focused with connections astronomy, physics, chemistry, math, and engineering practices (see details below). It starts with information about the film, then assesses students understanding of the science skills and film details.
