Description

This one-step equations task cards activity is designed for students in grades 6-8 to practice their equation solving skills. Turnover cards are like one person scavenger hunts! Students record the equations on their recording sheet, solve them, match the answer to one on another the task card, and flip the card over to move on to the next equation until they reach the END card. It is a perfect resource for centers, stations, independent practice, or homework. If students have cards leftover, they can go back to find the incorrect solution and correct their work.

Benefits

  • Great for checking for understanding
  • Perfect for independent practice
  • Includes integers and all four operations

Instructions/Tips for Implementation

Implement this task cards activity in your classroom by setting up stations where students can work independently or in pairs to solve the equations. Provide each student or group with a recording sheet and have them go through the task cards, checking their answers as they go along.

Understand solving an equation or inequality as a process of answering a question: which values from a specified set, if any, make the equation or inequality true? Use substitution to determine whether a given number in a specified set makes an equation or inequality true.
Use variables to represent numbers and write expressions when solving a real-world or mathematical problem; understand that a variable can represent an unknown number, or, depending on the purpose at hand, any number in a specified set.
Solve real-world and mathematical problems by writing and solving equations of the form ๐˜น + ๐˜ฑ = ๐˜ฒ and ๐˜ฑ๐˜น = ๐˜ฒ for cases in which ๐˜ฑ, ๐˜ฒ and ๐˜น are all nonnegative rational numbers.
