Description
To truly prepare our kids for the future, we have to teach them to think. Not every question has just one right answer. This can be very frustrating for kids, so the sooner we prepare them for this, the more comfortable they will be.
This packet is based on a problem-solving training I attended. These problems are open-ended, meaning there can be more than one right answer. These problems are meant to be challenging and inspire deeper levels of thinking and discussion between students.
These types of problems do take time, so there are a total of 36 different problems in this packet, enough for one per week, but if you are wanting to use them more often, I would encourage you to use the version without numbers so your students can practice the problem with the same structure, but different criteria to consider.
I've included ideas for Blended Learning in this packet that you might want to try, but they are optional in case they don't fit the needs of your classroom.
Realizing kids are different, I've included a variety of versions of the problems for easy differentiation. The versions I've included are:
-Original problems
-Problems without numbers
-Larger print
-QR Codes for Oral Administration/Blended Learning
-Web addresses for Oral Administration/Blended Learning
Providing manipulatives for the students to use while solving the problems can help spark their thinking. I've included base 10 blocks, ten frames, number lines, and bar graphs in this packet, but you can use whatever is most appropriate for your class.
