Description

Working on solving word problems with your students ALL THE TIME? Check out these open ended task cards for the perfect way to practice finding more than ONE correct answer to a problem! These questions give kids of all skill levels the opportunity to show what they know at their own, unique level.

Currently, this bundle includes 9 sets of open ended task cards that include some addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems. They are themed for September, October, November, December, January, February, March, April, and May. As I create new cards, I will add them to the bundle and the price will increase. :)

There are 16 cards and 1 recording sheet for each set. You may want your students to record their answers in a math journal or notebook, however, since finding more than one answer is the goal of these cards. Feel free to use them however is best for you and your learners!

Please feel free to ask any questions before purchasing, either through TPT or by emailing alleahmaree@gmail.com. :) Thanks so much for your support! Happy teaching!

I love these problems. My students are able to see how problems can have many different solutions. They enjoy being able to share their answers and rationale.

I was excited to use these, but even the September problems will be extremely difficult for the majority of my firsties and will not be able to be used independently.

Hi Heather! I'm sorry to hear that you feel these problems will be too challenging for your first graders! :( I will work on adding some simpler problems to each month...I hope that will help you be able to use them with your first graders. :)

Reading through some of the problems, it seems difficult for first graders. But I am eager to try these as a math warm-up for partners or small groups to brainstorm together. Really excited to see their reasoning and explanations!

Hi Cristina! I can definitely see how some of the questions would be challenging for first graders. That was definitely the goal when designing this resource. :) I’m working on making an editable version, so maybe that would be helpful for writing some simpler questions for your class. Coming soon! I hope your little ones love working together to solve these! Maybe they’ll surprise you. Haha! :)
