Orton Gillingham inspired open and closed syllable worksheets great for literacy centers and phonics practice! Matching cards can be used as a great activity during center time. This open and closed syllables resource is great for introducing to students as there are multiple pages for review and simple one syllable practice. Also, included is a poster which explains the rule for open and closed syllables. The anchor chart is great to display in your literacy classroom area.

What's Included:

  • Colorful poster
  • 15 student worksheets - differentiated practice
  • Open and Closed Sorting Activity
  • 18 Clip Cards - great for centers or partner work
  • 20 Puzzles - Read the open and closed syllable words - match the picture to the word
  • 16 Flip the Flap Cards - Teachers print front to back - students open the flap and read the syllable when the door is open - closed the flap and read the syllable

The worksheet descriptions are:

1) Color the open and closed syllables

2) Color the open or closed books based on the syllables

3) Cut and Paste the ending syllable to each word

4) Color the open and closed syllables to show division

5) Cut and Paste the open and closed syllables in the correct column

6) Cut and Paste the 2 syllable or 3 syllable words in the correct column

7) Write o for open and cl for closed based on the underlined syllable

8) Add a letter to the open syllable to make it a closed syllable and draw a picture

9) Draw a line to divide the syllables and write o or cl to identify the syllable.

10-13) Draw a line to divide the syllables, write C (consonant) or V (vowel) under each letter, write o (open) or c (closed) above each syllable.

14) Read the sentence and circle the open and closed syllable words.

15) Color by Code - Color the cactuses by code
