Description

This Opening Routine Visual Board, Check List and Additional Resources (Visual Accompanying Posters) are designed to be used in the English (Second/Foreign) Language Learning Classroom to start each class. Having a routine is so beneficial for all learners as it increases confidence in language ability and having a clear expectation of how the class will start will help with engaging the class in the rest of the lesson, improving overall class behavior and participation.

This has been a game-changer in my ESL classes and reduced the amount of planning and materials I have to prepare and bring. Also, it's drastically decreased the amount of time I spend on transitions and behavior management too! I start each class the same way using this routine. After I model it the first time during the initial introduction, for every following class I have a student, whom I call the "Mini Teacher," go through the routine, prompting the class and calling on other students to answer questions. Use it with my Class List (or get the Full Language Teacher Starter Kit Bundle see below) to keep track of who you has had the special student role and notice how it increases student interest. There are multiple versions (see below) so you can choose what best works for your classes given students age, level and needs.
