Description
In this operations of polynomials paper chain activity, students will add, subtract, and multiply polynomials.
I recommend having students complete this activity in groups of 2-3. Each group will need all 4 pages of the paper chain strips, a pair of scissors, and a glue stick, stapler, or tape to create and connect the loops.
Students will need to cut out each strip. They will start on Strip A where is says START.
Students will show their work for Strip A in the A box on their student answer sheet. They will then need to find their answer on a different strip. When they find the strip that has the correct answer, they will then simplify that expression. They will continue to do this as until they have answered all of the strips.
Once students answer Strip A, they will turn it into a loop. When they find the answer to Strip A, they will connect that strip to it, creating a paper chain. I recommend that students wait to create their loop until after they have simplified the expression on that strip.
