"What a great way to practice! I love that the students have different problems! One of the big problems I have discovered over the years is that both partners never want to work the problem if it is the same. This eliminates that issue."

"This is a great resource for my students! It was super easy to use and great for when I needed something in a pinch. "

Description

Make Fractions Fun with This Interactive Partner Math Activity!

Looking for an engaging way to help your students master adding, subtracting, multiplying, or dividing fractions? This collaborative fractions partner activity is perfect for reviewing all four operations with fractions while keeping every student accountable and involved!

Here’s how it works: Each student receives a worksheet marked with either a circle or a triangle. To begin, students pair up with someone who has the opposite shape. Although their worksheets contain different problems, each pair will arrive at the same answers—if they solve them correctly!

After solving each problem, partners check in with each other by asking, “Hey, what did you get?” If their answers match, they move on to the next problem. If they don’t, they work together to figure out the error—promoting collaboration, math talk, and critical thinking.

This hands-on, low-prep resource is a great way to reinforce fraction operations while building teamwork in your classroom. Ideal for math centers, test prep, or a fun review day!

This product includes a "Hey, What did you get?" activity for each of the following:

- Adding and Subtracting Fractions with unlike denominators

- Adding and Subtracting Mixed Numbers with unlike denominators

- Multiplying Fractions and Mixed Numbers

- Dividing Whole Numbers and Fractions

Answer key is included.

My students enjoyed working together to solve different problems but (hopefully) get the same answer. Allowed me more time to check in with different groups since they were able to easily check their answers. Would use again.

My students and I loved this. Both students had to work through their different problems and then they could check for the same answer - genius! Thank you!

Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators (including mixed numbers) by replacing given fractions with equivalent fractions in such a way as to produce an equivalent sum or difference of fractions with like denominators. For example, 2/3 + 5/4 = 8/12 + 15/12 = 23/12. (In general, 𝘢/𝘣 + 𝘤/𝘥 = (𝘢𝘥 + 𝘣𝘤)/𝘣𝘥.)
