Description
This is a "speed test," complete with 96 total notes and lines provided beneath for student answers. I use this as a "2 Minute Test" to give multiple times to students to see who needs extra note name help and measure student growth. These can also be used to play after the test is completed. I do not use this assignment for a grade in class, as the class average score is usually 50-80.
This speed test includes all notes of the D Major Scale. For violins, violas, and cellos it includes our first D&A string notes, and for bassists their D&G string notes.
This is by far the note reading test that helps my students improve the most. While it is not a part of their orchestra grade, I track scores and students do as well. When they see a score they don't like, they suddenly start practicing their flash cards more and increase their speed and accuracy in a matter of days.
For general music this can be used as the notes of the D Major Scale.

This was a great way to reinforce the learning of their note names.
This note review is great! It was perfect for my 6th grade orchestra class.
A great resource to use for review or for drilling. I just use a line at a time because I only have a short amount of time with my students.
My students loved doing this several times over several weeks, timing themselves each time and then looking back over and the growth they achieved!
I'm so glad you found it helpful! My kids LOVE doing the speed tests over and over. I plan to add some more with notes in different orders, and different combinations of notes soon! =)
Great seat work while tuning.
Thank you for the feedback! It's always nice to have educational activities for students to complete during tuning.
Great!
Thank you for the feedback!
I use this every week with my beginners! They love it, and are learning their notes much faster!
Thank you for the feedback! I find the same thing with mine - they will work harder for weekly speed tests than any graded test I have given them.
Save time. Thanks!
You're welcome! =) Thank you for your feedback.
