Description

I used this resource as a mini-lesson to teach ordering rational numbers (fractions, decimals, percents, and absolute value). These notes provide students with the steps to perform to order rational numbers. First students must change all numbers to decimals. Then students should use the number line to plot the decimal numbers. Last, students should use the points plotted on the number line to order the rational numbers. These guided notes provide students will an example of ordering from least to greatest and greatest to least. This would be an excellent resource to use to introduce ordering. I used this in conjunction with my mini-lesson on changing a fraction and percent to a decimal. That resource can be found at the following link.

Understand ordering and absolute value of rational numbers.
Understand the absolute value of a rational number as its distance from 0 on the number line; interpret absolute value as magnitude for a positive or negative quantity in a real-world situation. For example, for an account balance of –30 dollars, write |–30| = 30 to describe the size of the debt in dollars.
