Description

Help your students master ordering rational numbers with this engaging small group activity! Perfect for 6th grade math and TEKS 6.2D, students compare and order positive and negative fractions, decimals, and mixed numbers in both mathematical and real-world contexts.

Students work in groups of four with unique data sets. Each student completes their own tasks using inequality cards and replacement cards, then compares and checks with a partner and their group. Built-in peer checking means less grading for you while giving students valuable math talk practice.

What’s Included:

  • 4 Data Sets (unique for each student in a group of four)
  • Inequality Cards (students create true inequalities from their data)
  • Error/Replacement Cards (force students to rethink and reorder)
  • Student Instructions (clear, step-by-step guidance)
  • Teacher Reference Page (all values plotted on number lines for quick checks)
  • Color and Grayscale Versions

Why Teachers Love It:
✔ Covers fractions, decimals, mixed numbers, positives, and negatives all in one activity
✔ Encourages collaboration, problem solving, and explaining reasoning
✔ Peer checking built in — no need to grade every paper
✔ Teacher reference page saves time during class
✔ Easy to prep — just print, cut, and go
