Description
This activity is for 7th grade science and could be used for 8th grade review. This activity utilizes 16 different cards (8 chemical compounds and 8 real life pictures taken by me). Students are to catagorize the cards according to "organic" or "non-organic" based on the concept of CHONPS. Most organic molecules would be considered "living" at one time and would contain carbon for sure, and then most likely Hydrogen, Oxygen, Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Sulfur. I realize not ALLLL living things contain CHONPS, but all living things do contain carbon and a few other key elements. This is a great activity for an introduction into organic molecules. An answer key is included.

This helped them really make the concept stick.
My students always struggle with organic and inorganic. I've used this the last few years and they don't forget it now. Its been a really helpful resource!
