Description

In this awesome project students create and paint beautiful tessellations from origami crease patterns!

**This project was originally implemented in my STEAM based elective class with students in grades 9-12, and would be a wonderful project in any STEAM, arts or math (geometry especially) class!**

Brief Summary: In this project students create their own tessellation from origami crease patterns that they fold and paint. Each students finished product is a 12"x12" two color tessellation that can be displayed anywhere!

- 30 Slide PowerPoint: Includes introduction to tessellations, origami basics, student-friendly project overview, and detailed explanation of each project phase. (I have included the PowerPoint in both .PPT and .PDF file formats so that you can use PowerPoint ,GoodNotes or any other app to display and interact with the slides).

- PowerPoint Outline: This gives you thumbnails and and full breakdown of the slides so that you can make the most of the instruction!

Supplies your students will need:

  • 6"x6" Origami paper
  • 12"x12" cardboard squares
  • Paint and paint brushes
  • Glue sticks
  • Writing utensils

This is a great project for 8th-12th graders.

This was originally implemented during an 85-minute bell schedule format and took about 5-6 class periods to complete. This project will take 1-3 weeks depending upon your bell schedule and students skill level.
