Description

This slideshow, with step by step videos, will make it easy to teach your students how to make these incredibly cute origami turtles. I was inspired to create this project, because many of the directions found elsewhere were confusing and hard to follow. These directions include pictures, words, and videos to take the guesswork out of each step of the project. You could complete this project with your students as part of a study of Japan, or to create a special gift during the holidays. These turtles make great gifts, since the turtle symbolizes long life and good health. I recommend starting with a piece of paper that is 6x6 inches and then experiment with smaller sizes.  This is also a great way to differentiate instruction with your students. The origami masters in your class can use paper that is 2x2 inches, which is the traditional turtle size. If you want your turtles to look like the ones in the slideshow, you can purchase authentic origami turtle folding paper. You can also make your own unique turtle paper for free by coloring one side of a piece of white paper and cutting it to the size that you desire.
