Looking for a stress-free lesson that is still packed with valuable learning? Then this resource is perfect for you! This viewing guide will take students through the PBS NOVA episode entitled “Reef Rescue.” This episode discusses how coral reefs are crucial to marine life and human societies around the globe. It explains how corals are bleaching and reefs are dying off as climate changes and oceanic heat waves become commonplace. It also reviews the work marine biologists from across the world are doing to counteract this catastrophe using assisted evolution, as well as crossbreeding heat-resistant corals and transplanting corals' algae. This episode is approximately 53 minutes long. It premiered in April 2021.

This resource can also be adapted for use in remote or hybrid learning settings (although you must have a way for students to log in to view the PBS NOVA video since it is not currently publicly available). By downloading this resource, you gain access to a Google Form version of the worksheet. This Google Form can be added to your Google Classroom quickly and without any hassle. You will also be able to download a Google Classroom header image for this lesson!
