PUMPKIN Math Number Cards for Memory, Matching, Adding, and Comparing {BUNDLE}

Concentration / Memory Games are known to improve memory and concentration skills in students. Along with sequencing and matching activities, they are entertaining as well as educational.

The cards are differentiated in order to meet the abilities and readiness levels of a variety of learners. Some children might focus simply on matching or sequencing the cards 1-10. Other children will be ready to match numbers to 20, or to compare them using the <, >, and = symbols.

These games and activities may be played individually, with a partner, or in small groups. Once children are familiar with the variations (matching, memory, sequencing, comparing), they may be used at a learning center. Additionally, these cards may be used as flashcards.

I glue the colored cards to construction paper and laminate them to use at a learning center or with small groups. I find it helpful to have several sets—each set is mounted on a different color. This way, they are easy to sort into complete sets, which are stored in Ziploc bags. I use the blackline masters to give each student his or her own set of cards. The cards are copied onto construction paper. Students keep them in a Ziploc bag and take them home in order to use them there as well.

These number cards were created to reinforce student learning of the Mathematics Common Core State Standards:

1. Recognize and order the numbers 1-20.

2. Recognize and match different ways to represent a number using numbers and ten frames.

3. Compare greater than, less than, and equal to using numbers and ten frames.

4. Add numbers in order to strengthen addition fluency skills.

5. Understand place value of tens and ones; use 10 frames to compose numbers 11 (ten and one more) through 20.

6. Counting and cardinality skills reinforcement by counting objects to 20.
