Description

Students often struggle with paragraph organization. These 32 cards will help them to get a better understanding of paragraph structure. Each card features a paragraph with a missing sentence. These cards are meant to be supplemental practice; to be used after you have taught about topic sentences, supporting details, and conclusions.

There are two different ways for students to respond to these cards. The first, and easiest is multiple choice. Students can use the multiple-choice answer sheet to select the best sentence for each blank. An answer key is provided. A much more challenging way to have your students respond is by asking them to write a sentence to fill in the blank. They will need to use their inference skills as well as their understanding of paragraph structure to succeed at this task. An answer sheet is provided as well as a sample answer key. The sample answer key is best used to help students who are struggling with ideas rather than to correct answers, since this is an open-ended challenge and student answers will vary widely. A cover card and three reading strategy challenge cards are also included.
