The purpose of this project is for students to apply the special angle relationships created with parallel lines in order to solve for over 100 missing angles. Students will need to use properties of vertical angles, linear pairs, alternate interior angles, alternate exterior angles, corresponding angles, and consecutive (same-side) interior angles. The sum of the angles of a triangle is also used to find a few of the angles in the project.
Students are provided with 3 papers: an answer document, the parallel lines page with the numbered angles, and the parallel lines page without numbers. The answer document contains several starter angles for the project. The two parallel lines pages contain the same lines in the same position, however one page leaves off the numbered angles. Both versions have been included since some students prefer to solve for the angle measures without seeing the angle numbers.
In this project, lines a, b and c are all parallel to each other, lines j and k are parallel to each other and lines d, e, f, g and h are parallel to each other. However, none of the three grouping are parallel to each other.
