Description

  • These resources foster development of number sense and reasoning strategies through meaningful practice.  This builds fluency while applying properties of operations with addition and subtraction.
  • It follows the C-R-A instructional sequence (concrete-representational-abstract)
  • Print a copy of this packet for each student.  Students can mark on the images to count the objects, circle groups, or track 1-to-1 correspondence.
  • As students begin to recognize  the fact family patterns, they can switch to black and white copies and become even more independent.
  • This resource is similar to the other PPW student packet but this one only has one addition equation rather than the entire fact family.

Great visual representation for number bonds
Rated 5 out of 5
January 10, 2026
Met expectations
Great value
Standards-aligned
I appreciate the visual representation of these number bonds so that I can even just show the picture part for an independent center and ask them to create their own number bond from it. I also appreciate the simply structured and color coded way the slides are set up to show addition and subtraction.

Explain why addition and subtraction strategies work, using place value and the properties of operations.
Decompose numbers less than or equal to 10 into pairs in more than one way, e.g., by using objects or drawings, and record each decomposition by a drawing or equation (e.g., 5 = 2 + 3 and 5 = 4 + 1).
Apply properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract. If 8 + 3 = 11 is known, then 3 + 8 = 11 is also known. (Commutative property of addition.) To add 2 + 6 + 4, the second two numbers can be added to make a ten, so 2 + 6 + 4 = 2 + 10 = 12. (Associative property of addition.)
