Description
This 22 page pack is all about teaching young children the concepts of addition and subtraction, by developing their understanding of part-part-whole reasoning. This set covers the introduction of these concepts with the intent that, being young children, they need opportunity to practice their emerging understanding though lots of hands-on interactions with manipulatives such as beads, counters, pebbles etc.
This pack includes:
- 1X full page ladybug frame (colour) for the children to use for counting out objects, and to introduce the operational symbols of addition (+), but without the written algorithm.
- 1X smaller, two-to-a-page (side-by-side) ladybug resource. The same as above, but half the size.
- 1X full ladybug frame as above - but with space for the children start practising how to translate their calculations into a written addition algorithm.
- 1X smaller, two-to-a-page (side-by-side) ladybug resource with space for a written algorithm.
- *Each of the above four ladybug templates with introduction to the subtraction symbol (-) and written algorithm.
- 1x traditional part-part-whole frame without operational symbols. This is a generic frame and can be used for both addition and subtraction problems.
- 2x traditional part-part-whole frame with space for children to record their calculations using written symbols - one frame for addition and one for subtraction.
- 1x six frame worksheet template for you to print and use in class. This blank template is NOT editable and will require printing. I use these for differentiated work with my students, and for the students themselves to create their own problems.
- 1x twelve frame worksheet template as above.
- 2x pages of simple addition problem frames (find the whole). Calculations are in the 0-10 number range.
- 2x pages of simple subtraction/sharing problem frames (find the missing part). Calculations are in the 0-10 range.
- 2x pages of mixed addition and subtraction problem frames - 0-10 range.
- And for those needing a bit more of a challenge - I've also included two pages of frames with problems in the 0-20 number range.
Happy teaching!
