Part-Part-Whole Word Problems
A pre-algebra activity where students need to identify the unknown.
Students use part-part-whole diagrams to learn the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction, rearranging problems so they can be typed into a calculator to be solved.
For each question students have to:
- Complete the part-part-whole diagram putting a ? in the unknown box.
- Write the number sentence (how the story is written)
- Write the calculator sentence (what you would type into a calculator) with your answer at the end.
7 worksheets, 54 questions covering compare, combine, equalise and change problems.
Can be stapled as a work package, lots of questions on the same topic allow for repetition of the task to increase the success of students.
