Description

This Math Mat is designed to be a tool for students to visually dissect numbers and discover various ways to solve multiplication and division problems up to 40x40. When students use the mats, it is easy for them to keep track of their thinking and show the teacher their process to arrive at a solution.

Students explore equations by breaking numbers up according to place value to gain understanding of "Partial Product" and "Area Method" strategies. This important step in number sense development, helps students move towards trusting the traditional algorithm.

Mats can be laminated or sandwiched between contact paper to be used with dry erase pens. No more worksheets! Students can use the mats every day for the full year.
