Description

Thinkless Teaching develops animated videos that go hand-and-hand with cooperative learning activities. These activities are designed to get students working together to apply their understanding of a particular topic. It is Thinkless Teaching's goal to create videos that not only contain supplemented materials, but also specific stopping points within the video to allow for teacher-student discussion. We hope to provide you with an entire lesson without any "thinking" on your part! We hope you enjoy our product..

Overall Theme of the Video: During Patrick's Adventure students will work in groups of 2 to create a map of Patrick's travel around his town.  After they have plotted the points to create the path, they will work together to develop the equations that represents the roads of the town.  This is a great activity to review how to calculate a linear equation from two points plus the students enjoy getting up and developing a map of Patrick's town!

Implementation of Activity: When doing this activity within my class I divided the students into groups of two. Each group was given a poster-sized grid paper to develop Patrick's path around town for his driver's test. I laminated this grid paper and the students used dry-erase markers to create the path. We hung the posters around the room so each group could compare their maps with other groups. The students worked together in their groups to figure out the equation of the path then plotted it on the poster. Then they labeled the equation on each line they developed from the two points.

This was cute and something different for the class. We used this after two days of practice with point-slope form and the activity took less time then I thought (about 45min)

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Create equations in two or more variables to represent relationships between quantities; graph equations on coordinate axes with labels and scales.
Rearrange formulas to highlight a quantity of interest, using the same reasoning as in solving equations. For example, rearrange Ohm’s law 𝘝 = 𝘭𝘙 to highlight resistance 𝘙.
Solve linear equations and inequalities in one variable, including equations with coefficients represented by letters.
