Description

Pattern blocks are a great tool to use to develop students' visual-spatial skills and introduce them to basic shapes and geometry. This packet includes several different activities and a game they can use to create mosaics, compose shapes, and identify them and their attributes. You can use pattern block manipulatives, stickers, or stencils to complete them. There are recording and response pages that can be used for assessment and reinforcement.

Perfect for whole class lessons, math centers, and games.

You may want to print and laminate several copies of the Roll a Hexagon game.

Activities Included:
-Shape Table: Students will identify shapes of pattern blocks and count how many sides they have.
-Creating Mosaics: Students will create a mosaic on the frame (or larger paper) by tracing pattern blocks, a stencil, or pattern block stickers. Recording sheet included.
-Composing Shapes: Students will compose shapes by tracing pattern blocks or a pattern block stencil.
-Roll a Hexagon: Students will compose hexagons in different ways while playing this dice game with pattern blocks.
-Mini Mosaics: Students will create small pattern block mosaics.

My students enjoyed these activities. They were engaging and hands on. This resource went hand in hand with our Go Math chapter on 2-Dimensional shapes.
