Description

Help students combine fine motor with visual discrimination and making 10 in math with our engaging and practical Hen Has Ten pattern matching cards! Just print and use with counters or chips from your math shelf!

Color and pattern making activities are a great pre-reading, calm-down and playful math center for early and pre kindergarten.

Students will

  • identify colors
  • match colors
  • build visual memory
  • use visual memory to replicate a 9 grid pattern
  • talk about number combinations that make 9 (and 10)
  • practice early addition and subtraction skills
  • count sets of small numbers to make 10

To play students will take a pattern card and make a matching design on their play mat with counters. You will need red, pink, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple counters!

You will need plastic math bears and/or counters to use with this activity.

This file features

  • an activity instruction sheet,
  • 60 game cards
  • playing mats
  • a follow-up quick craft (make a pattern hen)
  • an optional addition recording page
  • a cover page (for your organizational pockets and pouches)

Bonus Digital Activity

Provided is a 15 slide digital activity for use with Easel by TPT. On each slide is one pattern. Use this as a stimulus for an activity demo, math talk, warm up or part of your lesson. Talk about colors, numbers, making 10 and more. Have students describe each picture to build mathematical language and concepts or they can copy the pattern from memory using their printable game mat and counters and you work through the slides. Enjoy!
