Description

This product is a study guide and quiz used for a math unit on Patterns. Each sheet has 5 questions that cover finding the rule in number patterns, completing input/output tables, and discussing patterns within even and odd numbers.

These questions directly reflect typical end-of-grade test questions and require problem solving.

The review (study guide) page is almost identical to the quiz, so it can be used as homework the night before or as an in-class review the day before.

These items have been used in a 3rd grade classroom, as they directly correlate with the 3rd Grade CC Objective:

CCSS.Math.Content.3.OA.D.9 Identify arithmetic patterns (including patterns in the addition table or multiplication table), and explain them using properties of operations.

They could also be used in an accelerated 2nd grade class or as a review of the 4th grade objective:

CCSS.Math.Content.4.OA.C.5 Generate a number or shape pattern that follows a given rule. Identify apparent features of the pattern that were not explicit in the rule itself.

This resource was great to use as a review, as well as a test for my students! We did the review in class and then I gave the quiz on that Friday. It was very helpful and a great resource!

Identify arithmetic patterns (including patterns in the addition table or multiplication table), and explain them using properties of operations. For example, observe that 4 times a number is always even, and explain why 4 times a number can be decomposed into two equal addends.
Generate a number or shape pattern that follows a given rule. Identify apparent features of the pattern that were not explicit in the rule itself. For example, given the rule “Add 3” and the starting number 1, generate terms in the resulting sequence and observe that the terms appear to alternate between odd and even numbers. Explain informally why the numbers will continue to alternate in this way.
