Description
This is a set of activities and games to use at your teacher table with small groups during your Guided Math time. The great thing about Guided Math is that you get to teach skills to small groups based on where their math skills are. You don’t need to do all of the activities or do them in order—just pick and choose what your groups need to work on.
There are four specific outcomes that are covered in this unit:
•Repeating Patterns
•2-D Shapes
•3-D Shapes
•Measurement
For each outcome, there are eight lesson activities or games for a total of 32 lessons. Each lesson has an optional recording sheet that comes in two formats--a full-page to put in a duotang or binder and a half-page that can be glued into a notebook. Each of the activities/games comes in full colour or black & white to save you on ink.
This unit includes all the pieces you will need. There are just some regular math manipulatives you might need, such as dice, game markers, unifix/counting cubes, pattern blocks, etc.
This unit aligns well with Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba first grade math curriculums, but can be used with any curriculum that has a focus on shape and space.
Patterns: focuses on repeating patterns of 2-4 elements
2-D Shapes: circle, oval, triangle, square, rectangle, rhombus, trapezoid, pentagon, hexagon, octagon
3-D Shapes: sphere, cone, cylinder, cube, pyramid, rectangular prism, triangular prism
Measurement: length, height, weight, area, volume/capacity, estimating
*Updated* This unit comes with two files now--the original PDF version and an editable PowerPoint version. If you teach Math in another language (French, German, or Spanish perhaps?) you can edit the text boxes on the student pages to meet your needs. The teacher information pages are not editable, but all the student pages are! You do need to have PowerPoint in order to edit the file.
