Description

This no-prep craft activity is great for helping your students develop their understanding of patterns and number sequences. Students complete the pattern or sequence on each strip of paper - then color in and glue to make paper chains! Ideal as a Kindergarten / Prep or 1st Grade math craft, but also caters for 2nd grade with advanced patterns.

What's Included:

The resource includes 7 different pattern pages-

  • 1 or 2 shape patterns with very simple and even shapes
  • 2 Shape or 2 Color patterns in ABA, AABB and ABB format
  • 3 Shape patterns and 1 Shape (turning) patterns
  • Growing and Shrinking patterns
  • Counting and early skip counting patterns
  • More advanced skip counting patterns (2 worksheets)

OR USE THE BLANK TEMPLATE and have your students make up their own patterns and number sequences!

A full set of solutions, assembly tips and finished example photos are also included.

Some other Ideas for Use:

  • Print on pastel / colored paper to reduce the coloring or for an extra-colorful display.
  • Pre-cut the strips using a guillotine and hand out a mixture of math facts to each student.
  • Ask students to work in small groups and see who can make the biggest chain!
  • Use the completed chains for a measurement activity using informal units.
  • Print the worksheets and pop in plastic pockets for a simple math center.
  • Ask early finishers to use a ruler and make their own template to complete or to give to another student.
