Description
Bring your whole class together for this engaging collaborative and fun activity! Every worksheet is different (individual accountability) but all worksheets are needed to create the Crocodile mosaic (collaborative motivation).
Includes two problem-set versions of this 30-sheet mosaic:
- Finding new or original amounts
- Just finding new amounts
You can mix and match worksheets form both versions toward the same mosaic, if you want to differentiate the difficulty for some students.
See the product preview to see a full sample worksheet of each version.
What will the mystery mosaic be? Students do the math to find out! Every student's problems are different, making it difficult to cheat.
MATH DETAILS
- Students solve problems involving percent increase or decrease, such as after-tax costs, sales prices, discounts, depreciation of value, retail mark-up, population growth, inflation, etc.
- "new and original" version could ask a question like: "the price before the 30% discount if it is now selling for $3.35", whereas the "just new amount" version sticks to asking questions like: "An item costs $3.79 but is being discounted by 30%. Determine the sale price."
ACTIVITY DETAILS:
- .pdf and editable .docx file formats for both mosaics
- Teaching Tips for smooth implementation of this task with your students.
- All colours used are found in the standard Crayola 24 pack of coloured pencils
- Students' worksheets each contain 12 problems. When solved, they colour-by-answer their section of the mosaic.
- Each student gets a different problem set, so no copying :)
- Randomized list of answers at the bottom of each students' sheet, allowing for self-assessment and catching mistakes before colouring.
- Master Answer Key for the full class set.
You can encourage students to talk to each other, since they all have different problems. The finished product will great on your wall! It's a terrific conversation piece on parent night too.
To check out more of my paper math mosaics, check out my Math Mosaic directory, sorted by topic.
All my “Colouring by…” paper worksheets use standard pencil-crayon colours found in the Crayola 24 pack. For best results, use the exact colour name match (and encourage quality colouring!). Perhaps a class set of pencil crayons would be a fun math department investment!
Feedback, suggestions, and frontline stories are much appreciated!!
