Description
This is a set of 20 task cards designed for students learning how to write a proportion using a percent and either a missing part or whole. Each card consists of a situation that gives a whole number answer and uses a percent that is a multiple of 10%.
I designed these to use with my above level fifth grade students. They have learned how to use proportions in other situations, transition to learning about percent as a ratio. I still want them to have practice completing proportions, so the recording sheet has a proportion partially completed (the 100 for the % is filled in). All of the problems can be solved without a calculator. I would consider these as beginning level cards for applying percent in a problem solving situation. Some cards involve finding the missing part, and others involve finding a missing whole. In all, the percent is given. These cards support Common Core standard 6.RP.3, but do not address finding a missing percent. (That'll be my next project!) They also served as good practice for multiplying and dividing by 100 when solved with cross-multiplication.
This is a 7-page PDF file that consists of 5 pages of task cards (4 per page), a 1-page recording sheet with a partially completed proportion, and a 1-page answer key.

While I didn't end up using this, I would definitely use it in the future when teaching upper elementary or middle school math. A great way to practice story problems in real-world contexts.
Used in 6th grade and my kids enjoyed this assignment. I let them work in groups.
My students loved this activity.
Good resource!
Great product. Thank you ;)
Engaging and fun for kids, easy for me!
Thanks
Cute and colorful task cards. Very organized recording sheet.
