This Quick Reference Guide to Percents is a 5-page tutorial on percents and conversions between fractions, decimals, and percents in clear, student-friendly terms. This resource can be used to reteach or reinforce basic percent concepts. Beginning with a brief, concise description of what a percent is, this tutorial section includes such topics as converting from percent to fraction to decimal and converting fraction to percent.

Each concept is described by connecting percents to previously learned, elementary math skills. This guide is written so that students of all ages can understand basic percent concepts. These clear, concise descriptions of percents and their conversions to fractions and/or decimals will aid elementary students as they begin to study percents and will refresh middle school students’ skills with percents. This guide is essential for high school students who may have difficulty converting from and to percents and yet must master algebra, hoping to pass standardized tests.

Students can access this resource for quick reference in any math class, and teachers can reproduce this guide for individual student use. This resource is a companion to our Gaining Math Momentum Warm-Ups.

NOTE: This Quick Reference Guide to Percents does NOT include operations with percents such as finding a percent of a number.
