Description

Are you looking for a fun and engaging activity to give your students practice with perfect squares and square roots? These task cards will effectively help your students master squares (from 0 to 400) and square roots (from 0 to 20).

More specifically, students will…

  • Define a perfect square
  • Identify perfect squares from 0 to 400
  • Find the positive or positive and negative square root of a given perfect square
  • Identify the two consecutive whole numbers between which the square root of a given whole number lies (estimating square roots)

How It Works:

There are so many different ways to use task cards in the classroom! Post the cards around the room and use them as a walk-about activity, have students work through the cards together in table groups, or turn them into a game by assigning point values to each card and seeing who can earn the most points. Feel free to use this resource however you would like!

This Resource Includes:

  • 2-page student recording sheet
  • 30 task cards (6 cards to a page for a total of 5 pages)
  • Worked out answer key

What other teachers are saying about these squares and square roots task cards:

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐“My middle school, resource students enjoyed this activity. It is a quality product that helps reinforce lesson and keeps students engaged. From a resource point of view, it helped to get students collaborating and use their notes and peers to problem solve.”

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐“I literally printed these this morning and used them in four 8th grade classes. The students had only spent two days on squares and square roots, and these were a perfect way to extend practice. Really nice variety of problems as well.”

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐“Task cards are always fun and engaging. The perfect addition to math centers yet also fitting for independent and partner work. Thank you for creating and sharing!”

There were a lot of them that my students heavily struggled on. I was only able to have 12 of them be used in class. Would recommend easier questions.
